Global climate change poses a serious challenge to biodiversity worldwide. With average temperatures increasing, rainfall patterns changing, and the frequency of natural disasters increasing, the impacts are far-reaching. First, changes in temperature affect the habitats of various species. Species that depend on certain temperatures to survive, such as fish and amphibians, are under major threat. For example, warming oceans can damage coral reef ecosystems, which are home to thousands of species. When water temperatures increase, coral reefs will experience bleaching, which will lead to mass death. Second, changes in rainfall patterns affect water availability. Areas experiencing drought will have an impact on vegetation and fauna that depend on water resources. For example, freshwater invertebrates such as snails and shrimp, which serve as indicators of ecosystem health, are threatened with extinction. These changes can also lead to migration of species, forcing them to seek new places that may not suit their living needs. Furthermore, increasing carbon dioxide concentrations cause changes in the chemical composition of the oceans. Oceanization caused by CO2 absorption results in a decrease in seawater pH, potentially damaging hidden ecosystems such as mollusks and plankton. The increasing frequency of natural disasters, such as floods and forest fires, contributes to habitat loss. Forest fires, in particular, cause direct damage to flora and fauna, resulting in the local extinction of certain species. Additionally, disturbed habitats are difficult to recover, potentially permanently changing ecosystem structure. Climate change also facilitates the spread of invasive species to new areas. This species, due to its lack of natural predators, can take over resources and affect local species. This spread not only threatens native species, but can also lead to broader ecosystem reorganization. At the genetic level, climate change is suppressing gene diversity. Isolated populations may face reproductive problems and lose the ability to adapt to environmental changes. This is particularly visible in endangered species, such as orangutans and tigers, which require large habitats to support sufficient populations. Biodiversity also plays an important role in ecosystem stability. When species begin to become extinct, ecosystem functions such as pollination, carbon storage and water purification will be disrupted. The presence of variation in ecosystems makes them more resilient to climate change, so loss of biodiversity threatens ecosystem sustainability. It is important for the global community to understand the impact of climate change on biodiversity.
